Content types

A few options turn a regular article into a long read, an interview, a brief, live coverage, a review or a podcast episode. The article template is chosen above the headline; the other options are in the settings column. All of them work in all three built-in site templates (Classic Newspaper, Modern Magazine, Minimal).

Article templates

You choose the template right at the top of the article form, above the headline – it is the row of cards called Article template. You can change it at any time, even for a published article.

So in an interview it is enough to write the questions in bold and the answers in plain text. A paragraph where only a part is bold stays regular text.

Brief

More settings → Options → Brief – lead only, no page of its own.

A brief is shown in listings with its headline and standfirst, but the headline does not lead anywhere – the brief has no page of its own. So write the whole message in the standfirst. Briefs are not offered among related articles or in the link dialog of the editor.

Live coverage

It suits elections, a match or a council meeting: an article to which short time-stamped entries are added as things happen.

In the Podcast, video, live, review panel set Live coverage to running – updates load automatically for readers and save the article.
Open the article again. A Write live updates button has appeared in the same panel.
Write the text in the New entry field and click Publish entry. The option Important – highlight highlights the entry on the site.
When it is over, click End the report. The entries stay on the site; new ones just stop loading. The Start the report button gets it running again.

On the site the entries are above the article text, newest at the top. New entries load by themselves for readers every 30 seconds; they do not have to refresh the page. A single entry can be removed with Delete in the table below the form; it cannot be edited.

Until the article is published, readers do not see the entries. Only someone with the right to publish may write entries for a published article.

Review with a rating

In the Podcast, video, live, review panel fill in Review – rating in % (0–100) and write what you are rating into the field next to it – the name of the film, book or product. A box called Our rating with the number and a bar is shown below the article text. The rating is also passed on to search engines. An empty field means the article is not a review.

The editorial rating is something different from the stars readers use to rate an article – those belong to the Comments and ratings extension.

Podcast, audio and video

Paste the address of an MP3 or MP4 file, or an address from YouTube, Vimeo or Spotify, into the Audio or video field. A player is shown above the article text. The player of an external service is loaded for the reader only after a click.

Upload your own file to Media first and paste its address into the field. Articles with an audio file (MP3, M4A, OGG, WAV) form a podcast feed at the address /podcast.xml. You submit this address to podcast apps. Articles locked for signed-in readers do not get into the feed.

In brief

More settings → In brief. Three to five key points, each on a line of its own. A box called In brief with bullet points is shown above the article. It helps readers in a hurry as well as AI-powered search engines.

Questions and answers

More settings → Questions and answers. Write the question on one line, the answer below it, and leave an empty line between the pairs:

When will the new bridge open?
According to the town hall, in October next year.

How much does the construction cost?
84 million crowns in total.

A Questions and answers section with expandable questions is created below the article. Search engines also get them as structured data (FAQ).

What is added automatically

In Settings → General → More options an administrator can turn on or off the elements that are added to articles without your involvement. By default these are on:

Reading time and progress bar – for articles longer than two minutes of reading,
Table of contents from subheadings – for articles with at least three H2 subheadings, a clickable outline is shown above the text,
Share links below articles,
Automatic related articles – by tags and section, unless the article is a part of a series.

So write subheadings with the H2 button, not as a bold paragraph.
